Grayson

Grayson was diagnosed with stage 3 Neuroblastoma when he was young (a rare childhood cancer that produces masses caused by uncontrolled or abnormal cell growth).  Doctors found a tumor in his abdomen.  Grayson has also been diagnosed with Chronic Neutropenia which is an abnormally low number of neutrophils (the part of the white blood cell that fights bacterial and fungal infections).

Grayson needs 4-5 molars pulled and 4 baby teeth removed as they have not fallen out naturally.

He has been to see numerous dentists and has been turned away due to the fact that he cannot fight off infection.   Very few dentists want to take the risk to perform such a procedure.

We have finally found a pediatric dentist (specialist) to do the dental work but he is advising that it all needs to be done at one time.  More than one procedure will increase the risk for infection for Grayson which is dangerous due to his Chronic Neutropenia.

Sick Kid’s Hospital will administer the medication required for the procedure and perform the blood work one week before the procedure.  Where the help is needed is the cost of the dental procedure itself.

Grayson’s dental procedure will cost $2400.  The anesthesiologist costs $1,000 on top of the procedural cost for a total of $3400.00.

The full procedure is not covered by insurance.   Our coverage is $1000/year at 30%.  We have used $600 already on specialists and dentist appointments for solutions for Grayson and the anesthesiologist is not covered by insurance at all.

Grayson’s need for the surgery has increased drastically because he has developed an abbess. He is currently on antibiotics in attempts to keep the infection under control but needs to have the abscess drained and teeth pulled as soon as possible.
