Campaign Story
Imagine walking across the street at a marked crosswalk, all traffic stopped. As a lone motorbike zips past every car and other bikes and impacts you and your granddaughter.
You’re across the street from the hospital, hospital staff runs out to assist. Your son carries you to the ER and the ER staff carries your grand daughter. With a bike tread mark on your granddaughter’s shirt, neck, and face. You're thankful you took some of the bike so your granddaughter lives but know you’re not out of the woods as they race you back for emergency surgery.
Praising the Lord you’re out of emergency surgery and hearing that your granddaughter is hurt but nothing is broken. You just feel thankful for the miracle of life.
Now, in the US, you are able to receive quick treatment and read the shocking hospital bill from the comfort of your home in your already recovering body. Slowly paying the interest free bill over time.
In Thailand, the payment was discussed with your son, which you weren’t even aware of, before any treatment would be rendered.
Whoa. It’s a lot to soak up.
So, here we are, realizing that prior to grandma Betsy being taken in for emergency surgery, the hospital staff had to calculate the estimated total, and had us review it and signed to ensure we would pay in full before leaving the hospital. Can you even fathom having to decline payment, sitting by your parents bedside, weaping, and watching them die? Being through this, we’re realizing unfortunately, some people are forced to make these choices.
We’re thankful we had been saving and we were able to cover the first surgery and hospital stay which was about $10,000 or 300,000THB. 🙌
Everyday, the staff comes into your room to discuss that day’s cost, and you sign, letting them know you will pay in full before exiting the hospital.
Well, grandma Betsy’s incredible recovery has brought us down the road to discuss payment and length of stay for yesterday’s surgery. This has been estimated at an additional $31,000 or 950,000THB.
We are working on logistics, bank and credit card solutions, etc on our end. We spoke with Betsy’s Medicare and they told us they will not cover expenses outside the US and she is not in good enough condition to take a long flight. In addition, after reviewing her insurance, she’d likely be paying more afterwards, in the US, because of the high billing costs. she just wouldn’t have to pay up front.
There will be approximately 3 or more months of rehab afterwards but are confident the charges will be more like her $40 copay on her Medicare plan and are thankfully prepared to handle that cost.
With all of that being said, we are reaching out to ask for help. If any of you might feel led to give, we would graciously, with overflowing hearts, accept your financial blessing; even in the smallest form.
We’re believing that the miracles haven’t stopped yet. That the Lord will continue to shine bright in this whole situation. Nothing is impossible with him fighting for us.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34
(We originally we’re raising in THB but saw some confusion so changed it to USD. However, the website doesn’t support a conversion and only changes the currency symbol. So, we’ve adjusted the goal to accommodate the adjustments. Feel free to message me for further details.)
