3 years in California court (16 court dates) as the paternal Grandparents we have been granted visitation monthly with 10 days in June and 10 days in July. The Judge said numerous times "this is an unusual case" in that the Grandparents have taken the place of the father regarding care and support of these children.
For the first 10 years of our Grandchildren's lives we were the primary care givers and financial support of our Grandson and Granddaughter (now age 12 and 11 soon to have their birthdays). My husband had an inheritance that provided the additional funds to care for the needs of our Grandchildren from diapers, food, clothes/shoes, pre-school, sports, dance on and on. In 2010 their mother met a man on the internet and moved two hundred miles away. She filed a motion to move and I responded as a claimant to the case with the children's father. After 3 years in court, I represented myself (having retained 2 attorney's prior), we were awarded monthly visitation with extended days in June and July 2014. California's law states it is in the best interest of children to live with a parent.
Funds are needed to have these court ordered visits with our Grandchildren. Additional money is needed, an example is for school lunch costing $25.00 a week, clothes, and shoes . Presently we are financially exhausted and have additional travel expenses for visitation. We love our Grandchildren and they love us. We have been/are the stable people in their lives and it is vital these visits take place so we have physical contact with our grandchildren to insure their well being.
We desperately need financial help! My husband is a prostate cancer and open heart surgery survivor and we are both senior citizens. The estimated cost figured, is for gas/mileage, food, lodging, school lunches, clothes, etc. for approximately one year of visitation. The annual cost will be evaluated this time next year.
Your reward in knowing you are helping make a difference in two wonderful kids lives. To date they are doing well with grades in school. We have instilled in them the importance of an education and how it can change your life.
