Hello,  My name is Donna and my best friend, is also my Mum.   Throughout her life she has always been the one who noticed the un-noticed, helped the most helpless, protected the people nobody was protecting and gave her all to anyone who needed her.      She worked as a volunteer for many years at Victim Support a long time ago now, and still holds those she helped, close in her thoughts.  She won't say no when asked for help, which is all too often and has always been the heart, the voice of reason, and of comfort and the balancer of all things troublesome in our world.    When we were children, she was always the one who'd come up with adventures to magical places, like making a swing in the centre of a forest, climbing to find possums nests in the hole of a tree, silently searching riverbanks at night with a torch to catch a glimpse of an eel (she'd never catch them) or finding lollypop trees by sniffing them out, to name but a few.  She then excitedly awaited the role of 'Nana', and did all those things with them, too, getting more creative as they grew.  She was involved in every facet of our childrens lives with, passion, until she was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease, leaving us all wondering why it was that bad things seemed to happen to good people.      To watch somebody who has dedicated her life to making others feel safe, loved and simply listened to is heartbreaking.  My beautiful Mum is broken and we ache watching it happen.  Since a year after diagnosis her ability to do anything on unstable ground has been compromised by the tremors, and her weight has plummeted due to nausea and shaking.    The adventures we shared with her not long ago now, are now out of the question and the hardest bit is that she hates being centre of attention, yet she often is, or needs to be simply because life goes on, but doesn't slow down.   We have researched this disease and are on email updates for new or available treatments but the only treatment that holds any promise is Stem Cell Therapy.  We have been told that she can have treatment as soon as we can pay, but the cost is astronomical!  At this point, we'll need to raise upwards of $20,000 dollars for the proceedure alone, with accomodation, and other costs adding thousands more, and so we're hopeful we may get some help on here.   If you can donate, however little, we'd be that much closer to giving our beautiful Mum, wife, Nana, Mum in law and friend a chance to regain a little of her dignity and freedom.  Thank you for taking the time to read this far,  if you know of any other therapies known to help Parkinsons, please let us know in the comments!

Again, thank you!,

Donna

  • Hey guys, thank you so much, we are now officially 'live' on Gogetfunding because of your help! It's amazing how nourishing this is for us when we've spent the last couple of years watching Mum deteriorate so quickly before our eyes. It's a horrible disease and it's so good to feel like we're fighting back. Big hugs to you all! Mary, we need to catch up!
