Campaign Story
On the night of Thursday 14th July 2016, Saverio Ciancio, known to all his friends and family as Sid, was rushed to Prince Charles Hospital after suffering from multiple seizures caused by a very large aneurysm between his heart and stomach that had ruptured, causing him to have a heart attack upon arrival. Requiring immediate life saving surgery he was rushed over to RBWH, suffering from another heart attack along the way. After a long night and fantastic effort performed by the RBWH surgeons, where he also required surgery on the main artery in his left leg, Sid's surgery was a success and he was stabilized by the morning and placed into the ICU.
2 weeks on after enduring many complications with his health, all of his vitals were good and Sid was showing good signs of recovery. Catching the ICU team off guard Sid had a 3rd major heart attack. Astounding everyone Sid managed to pull through, proving that after all the gruelling complications he had suffered from, just how strong willed and strong a fighter he really was. Sid spent the next week in a stable condition. After 3 weeks in ICU and the team having done all they could for Sid, it came the time for his family to make the hard decision to remove the breathing tube he had required and be moved to a ward. During which time he battled on breathing on his own and defying what doctors expected was even able to talk to his family. Reassuring to everyone the power that comes from the will to live, battling and fighting on, never giving up until the end.
After a very long and hard 4 weeks, on Thursday 11th August 2016, Sid sadly passed away.
Anyone who knew Sid in his lifetime knew him for his quirky personality. He was a joker who spoke his mind freely and lived for the moment. True to himself, loyal, stubborn as anything and always leaving a lasting impression. He loved tenpin bowling where over a span of 50 years he met countless amazing people and made some lifelong friends. But anyone who truly knew him, knew his heart and soul belonged to fishing. Moreton Island, a fishing rod, family, good food and his music were all Sid needed to be happy.
Sid left this world knowing his family supported him and their loyalty to him during such a difficult time would have made him nothing other then a very proud husband and father. All being by his side everyday right until the very end. They all can be proud of each other and of the true family loyalty they all inherited from a person who can be described as nothing other than a truly fantastic amazing man.
His family would like to take the opportunity to thank the RBWH team for everything they did for Sid and know it was greatly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. We would also like to thank all of his family and friends who have showed their support and respects for him and our family during this time. We, Sid's children, have created the "Gone Fishin" fund to help support our mother, Barbara Ciancio, who spent 40 years of life with Sid. A truly loyal companion. We kindly ask that anyone who wishes to help, please make a contribution to give Sid the send off he truly deserves and help provide financial relief for his family during this difficult grieving time.
Thank You again to everyone for their kind words, prayers and respects. Saverio Ciancio - Forever Gone, Never Forgotten xoxo
