Campaign Story
Starehe Boys' Centre and School in Nairobi, Kenya was founded in 1959 by the late Dr. Geoffrey W. Griffin, the late Mr. Geoffrey Geturo and the late Mr. Joseph Gikubu and has since then provided high quality, holistic education to over 15,000 disadvantaged boys. Unfortunately, due to economic pressure, the school is struggling to remain open.
#GoKibiko and Starehe@60
As part of the 60 year anniversary celebrations, Starehe alumni from all generations have come together to raise funds for the school through various initiatives. The #GoKibiko charity cycle is an initiative by Starehe alumni to create publicity and raise funds for the school by riding their bicycles from Busia to Mombasa (1,000 kilometres in 11 days)! The challenge runs from August 27th to September 7th 2019 and hopes to raise 5,000,000 Kenya shillings (US $ 50,000) towards this very worthy cause.
The team: Sam Kibiko (C98), Ian Hicho (C05), Fred Njoroge (CO6), John Odor (C90), Peter Gitu (Parent to Ian Njuru - Form 4) and Samuel Kimani (Friend of Starehe).
Your role? Well, it's simple...apart from cheering the GoKibiko Team on, the school desperately needs any amount of money you can spare. The target of this campaign is to raise $50,000 (or more) by September 30th 2019 ALL of which will go into the #GoKibiko campaign and ultimately to the school's endowment fund to ensure there is a place in the school for a deserving young boy FOREVER!
