My name is Arianna Burkett. I am a 29 year old college student. My mother, my roommate and myself have fallen on very hard times and bad luck. We are going to be homeless by next month. We are not bad people, we are not bums and do not want to have to become hoboes. We do not have a vehicle, because our van's drive shaft snapped back in November and we cannot afford to fix it.

What we are facing now is homelessness. My roommate was on unemployment, but that has completely run out. My mother has a deteriorating spine and has nineteen months left until she has a disability fair hearing to determine whether or not she can get on disability. I am unemployed, due to being a full-time college student.

The closest homeless shelter is 200 miles away and we do not have a vehicle to get to there. They also do not allow pets and I have a kitten that I have been raising since he was one month old- his mother, a stray, abandoned him. We cannot walk to find help, because 200 miles is way too far to ask any person to walk, in the middle of winter. I do not even have a winter jacket or boots. My mother would not be able to walk 50 miles.

What has happened is that because my roommate's unemployment ran out, we are unable to pay rent. We were hoping that her unemployment would last until she and I got our taxes, that way I could pay for a couple of months, until I got my student refund check so I could pay even more rent. But her W2s will not be here until the 30th of the month- and while I did e-file for my taxes on my student loans, the IRS will not begin processing taxes until the end of the month- and money will not be sent until February. I will have my student refund for this term in the middle of March.

So, what I am doing is coming forward on my knees to beg for a sign that kindness and generosity are not things of the past, though it makes me feel half an inch tall to have to beg anyone for money or any sort of help.

I have contacted my local churches. They have no money and have no idea when they will be able to assist anyone with financial issues. We live in a very small town, so that is only to be expected. Salvation Army here does not have any rental funds-- they don't even have their food pantry open any more. Red Cross only helps with natural disasters. Welfare will not help because no one in my house has children under the age of 18.

So I am begging and pleading with anyone who might be willing or able to help with anything at all that will go toward my rent. The total that I need to keep us here until I get my taxes is $300.

I do not know if it matters, but I do have a PayPal account with a debit card linked to it: [email protected] that is also my personal e-mail address, in case someone wants to send me something through the mail, or they want me to give them my landlady's contact information.

Anything and everything will help a great deal.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
