Hello all and thank you in advance for reading my story and an even bigger thanks if you are able to help. I'm a father of 3 supporting a family of 5 on a single income of $11.00/hr. if that doesn't seem impossible enough, my fiance of 5 years recently suffered a stroke at age 28. She was originally misdiagnosed and wasn't properly treated for another week. This has left her with some permanent damage to her vision and brain. Our youngest child will be starting school at the end of august and she and i were both excited at the idea of her picking up a part time job so we can provide more for our family. Her current condition has prevented that most likely permanently. She is unable to receive disability benefits because she has never worked long enough to pay in the required social security income. She has been a stay at home mom since age 18.

Unfortunately it doesn't end there. In may we received an electric bill for $1700. Reason given to us by the power company was that we had been budgeted the prior year at $200/ month. I was not aware we had been budgeted and felt that this amount reflected an estimate based on a meter reading. I found out that I was wrong, Due to a faulty water heater our actual bill was at the $350.00 plus mark. In may we received the balance of that on our statement, swiftly followed by a shut off notice. This was going to be followed by and additional $780 bill the next month. The landlord stressed we pay the bill and not allow the electric to be shut off. The reasoning behind this was that the water pump supplying water to our home was also supplying our neighbor, and we were paying for it.

This was only the tip of the iceberg. Our original landlord was currently in prison for rape of a minor, and his sister who was one of his acting powers of attorney was my contact for everything. Shes a sweet woman with much on her plate, and tasked as the rent collector and messenger. I did manage to get the electric bill paid thanks to my loving family who truly have no wealth and were pulling into money saved for their current retirement. At this point however i also dumped all additional income I had into this forcing me over two months behind in rent. At that time our roof was leaking. (It had been leaking in the garage since two months after our lease began, damaging much of our property stored inside.) This now had spread to the house, and they had known about it for over 6 months. The water heater has not been replaced. Ventilation lays under the crawl space not hooked to the vent for a/c and oil heat. There are other issues, but regardless nothing has been fixed.

This past Thursday they had informed me that if did not have $1000 by the end of the month that we will be receiving an eviction notice. I'm not able to do this. My salary does not generate the kind of income to make that affordable. Especially when I'm required to miss work certain days to take my fiance to therapy, and other appointments. My employer is understanding, and works with this. That's why, despite the low wages I remain there for the loyalty and job security.

We have been on the hunt for a new residence but with out the assistance of HUD we can't afford a 3 bedroom rental, (2 boys, 1 girl) and certainly cant retain the additional security deposit or moving expenses with in 30 days. We are on a waiting list with HUD in our area, which is quite long for the amount of funding our county receives. Prior to moving here we were on the section 8 program, as was our landlord. After his arrest he was removed from our program and we were given a small grace period to relocate. We were unable to find a residence that was approved and with in our budget and voucher amount. So we remained here, struggling but getting by.

I hate to admit it but we need help to get set up with a new residence, so my family doesn't end up homeless and so that we have a chance to make ends meat until HUD is able to help us, my Love is able to heal, and get our lives back on track. Anything you can help with will give us a chance. Thank you for your generousness and compassion.
