Change Couple Life, Help us Go Back to School

Hello, we are Abdulsalam & Sumaya, a married couple from Yemen.

Three years ago, trying to get a better life, we fled the war in Yemen, in a long terrifying journey. Despite all the circumstances and difficulties, we made it and survived.

We have been living in Malaysia about three years, we hoped that things will get better by time, but they didn’t. We are unable to legally earn a living, or settle. We cannot return to Yemen, because the situation has deteriorated.

When the war in Yemen started, I -Abdulsalam- was in my final term of studying for Bachelor’s degree. The university shut down for a while alongside with everything in the country, including our jobs. After two years, I went back to Yemen six months ago to finish my Bachelor’s degree, until now I’m not sure when I’ll be able to receive my diploma due to the situation there.

Whether as I -Sumaya- have been working as a teacher for around 10 years so far, I have been trying to get a master degree since a long time. It was difficult in Yemen, and it's more difficult now that we had to leave our country, and had to spend all our savings on this moving.

We are hard-working people, we graduated from high school with an excellent GPA, and we have got mostly A in university. We had been active through school and college and received many awarding certificates.

We have been trying hard to create our chances in life, we got to try different things, methods, projects, and jobs. None of them worked well for us.

We had applied to many schools and universities, every time one of us gets an acceptance from a college, we just decline it due to money issues. Frankly, we barely managed to survive and cover minimum living expenses through the past three years.

We are trying to formulate a plan for our future, the most important thing for us is to complete our education. We decided to focus and do whatever it takes to study, and improve our lives through education. Now, we got a chance from Vigo University (public university in Spain) to resume our study. Unfortunately, we still need to cover the fees for the first year, which we can’t afford.

First year fees include language courses, flight tickets, health insurance, ...etc (8,750 EUR/for each of us). After that, we’ll be able to get part-time jobs and cover our living expenses and any other fees.

We have been reluctant to launch this campaign because we have always prided ourselves on our independent spirit and self-sufficiency, but now, we realize that there comes a time in life to trust the goodwill and generosity of others. So – we have swallowed our pride and are humbly asking for help.

We will be grateful for any help that you can give us. We know that there may be many other requests like ours, but please know that We will honor your gift. It will be an investment in our future. We also pledge to help other people once our own lives become stabilized.
