I will be going to Costa Rica for the month of May to volunteer with underpriveledged children there in orphanages. The cost of the program is $3000 including transportation and Visa requirements, and survival funds while there. I will be creating programs for children to participate in that involve using their creativity and imagination. Imagination played a big role in my childhood. I was constantly drawing, writing stories, painting, creating things with my hands, to the point where I'd recreate the world around me oftentimes. The arts can be seen somewhat as escapism in many ways. For these kids it will be an opportunity for them to think big and dream big beyond what their physical environment displays. For me, the arts did just that. It allowed me to think bigger than I'd ever imagine. Being an artist opens your mind to possibilities that involve faith, beyond the present reality. Creative thinking formed an entrepreneur of me today. A woman who is bold enough to believe that she can have a publishing and design company that makes a difference in the artistic community. I believe that the degree, art classes, training and work experience I have in art, communications and event planning will all be of great use in such a time as this. Growing up I tagged along with my mother on mission trips. I've been to Mexico to feed the poor and do face painting with kids and I've been to San Francisco to feed the homeless there. I've done a lot of volunteer work and most recently have been involved with a charity that provides shoes to the homeless. Thank you for your support. Any assistance is appreciated.
