My name is Calvin Olugae, 24years of age.
I am an innovator and passionate about making better societies for people in Africa with deep focus in reimagining the food value chain. For the last two years, I have been developing solutions that salvage edible food that used to go to waste as well as valuing farmers efforts of production. Having grown in a region where food production is in lesser quantities- that which is not enough to sustain families adequately, I thought to myself that it is time to change the narrative of food insecurity in my locality.
On joining College i visited an agricultural region where food production is done on large scale and farm activities have been mechanized. Food is produced and surplus at times would go to waste; a contrary setting to my home town. I was moved on seeing food being mishandled and much being thrown away due to their perishable state and poor handling.
This concerned me and I could not stand food going to waste. I teamed up with a friend- our dorms while at campus have been working on achieving zero hunger for societies in rural Kenya by innovating ways which will enable surplus food be transported to regions with less food quantities rather than it going to waste.
With several campaigns we did that aimed to enlighten people on the value of food to development of solar powered cold storage units suitable for storing fresh farm produce, we are stopping at nothing until Food Insecurity becomes a thing of the past.
After sharing with Global Goals MUN, I was selected to go share our success story at a three day Global Goals MUN Summit in Kuala Lumpar in January 2019.
However, registration fee is $415 and flight costs for a round trip are $955. This gives a total of $1370. I would like help in attending the event knowing what value it will bring to me as an individual, my team and the small holder farmers I have been working with. I know the Forum will bring together Business Leaders, Investors and networking with them will give me an avenue for changeling relevant resources back to my society and the activities we are running I have already began by withdrawing from my savings and awaiting pledges from friends and family to cater for my visa and travelling to the city on the day of departure.
I believe crowd funding for this cause is right and believe with your help I will be able to successfully attend the event, network and connect with fellow change makers.
The deadlines for registration is 30th September and flight bookings will be in October. Here are my social media handles;
