12 Napier close Portland Mitchells Plain

Attention: Sports and recreation

Warm greetings to you and your organisation.

My name is Morne Micheal Press and I am a resident of Portland in Mitchell Plain Cape town South Africa . On a daily basis I live and witness the scourges of hopelessness, unemployment, poverty, lack of opportunities, teenage pregnancy, drug and substance abuse that ravage through the communities of Mitchell’s plain. We all agree that this is a situation that we cannot allow to continue unabated. Hence, it is out of this disillusionment and desperation that myself and other concerned and caring individuals got together and decided to do something meaningful.

We have started a project which is called The Giving Back Project .Our aim is to provide healthy alternatives which would allow the youth (from 4year old to young adolescents, and in some cases adults too) to engage in healthy activities, where their energy could be spent in a meaningful way .We hosted seven events which were very well received and turned into major successes.

We arrange a variety of sporting activities where streets compete against one another. The types of sporting activities range from street soccer, table tennis, netball, dodge-ball, egg-and-spoon, sack-races, and indigenous games to shackles, where ankles are tied together and two participants run in pairs. We also envisage introducing games such as snakes-and-ladders, monopoly, ludo, card games and domino's.

At this point in time, we solely depend on people from the community to provide us with much needed support, such as sound ,music ,first aid and food, because we believe food and music and sport are manna to our communities and is a proven way to get people to participate in the event. Local artists provide entertainment on a voluntary basis and we were able to access the services of Good Hope FM Presenter TK, to MC at our last event. On the 18th of June I was very privileged and honored to be hosted on a local radio Station where i got to speak of the goals and the vision of thie Project . We are once again planning a similar event on the 3 December 2016 in Portland Mitchell Plain CApe Town South Africa. This will be the last event of 2016 so we hoping we can give the people something to remember ,we starting off with a 5km Cancer and Drug awareness walk to the Beach (Mnandi) where all kids will participate in a color run which will be the first color run In Mitchell's Plain . WE will then head back to Napier close Portland for a Potjie Kos Competition where 15 participants will take part in cooking a feast that will be judged, adding live entertainment with our very own Dj and water filled survival games with jumping castle street soccer, netball, table tennis and cricket tournament, we want to accommodate for each child with different skill set. This Event will be held in the street (Napier Close) to unify our kids in the area and try and levitate the pressure of what our area is currently struggling with. We would be filled with gratitude and sincere appreciation if you and your organization, or you in your personal capacity could assist us with any of the above mentioned items in any which way possible.
