Give Warmth to Bangladeshi Street Dwellers

Hi !! I am Imran from Dhaka, Bangladesh and me working for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors without Borders, as an Environmental Health Officer. It is an international humanitarian aid organization which mainly focuses on health issues in emergency. I was happy with my job because I am able to serve factory workers of our project intervention area and day by day situation is getting improved. But suddenly a change is happened in my life.

Usually I go to my warm soft bed @ 10 pm sharp but In 20^th January 2017 after attending a wedding party I was returning to my home by walk @ 11 pm and then I surprised to see that how miserable the condition of homeless poor people especially the children lying on road side and footpath, It was freezing out !! 13 degree Celsius and they are trying to getting warmth from each other’s body. They are covered themselves by torn cloths and gunny sack. I felt so thankful to God that I have my warm Jacket and my lovely mother is waiting for me in my home.

After returning home I told my mom about my experience she inspired me “you are a young energetic boy and if you try to change this situation from your heart, then you can definitely change this misery”

I saw one article of homeless people of Dhaka city and information I found was so terrific, about 44% of people living in the Dhaka are deprived of any sort of housing facilities. Of the 44% homeless, 35% stay in slums while 8%-9% floating section of them beside roads, rail lines and parks. This huge number of people is homeless as well as fighting with cold!!

Then I discussed with my dad and he advised me to buy some blanket for this street dweller and he give me 5000 BDT (62 USD), I also add another 13000(160 USD) from my side and buy 36 piece of blanket. When I gave it to them I think their smile was the best gift in my life.

Obviously I have my family dependent on me and that’s reason I can’t able to do everything I wish for this poor street guys though I have strong feelings for them. But last 3 month I already save 100 USD for next winter and hope I am able to save more. Guys!!! This year my target is to give 200 blankets. If almighty favors me I can able to collect 300 USD and I need 950 USD more. I need your help Guys!! I Think I am not alone. God almighty and you are always with me and together we can bring happiness in the face of 200 homeless street dweller people.
