Dear Donors,

My name is Jimmy Tan. I am an active volunteer worker for a Chinese temple located at Jurong East helping out the needy; I am also actively in contributing my free-time to the temple lion dance troops to raise funds for temple. For many years, whenever I am off work, I will make my trip down to the temple to contribute my help as much as possible. I have been doing the same routine since then.

Unfortunately, at the age of 29, I was paralysed neck down due to a traffic accident, which I am the rear passenger of the car. I was bed-ridden for few years and all my active lifestyle has come to a complete halt. I was very depressed with my life and have been searching ways to end it. It was then my priority, as i don't wish to burden my family members.

(I have attached the picture of my traffic accident and the X-Ray of my neck where surgeons have to re-attach my neck spine with metal plating.)

By ending my own life, in fact will help to ease my family burdens because my conditions, I needed someone to be with me 24/7. Because of me, my parents have quit their jobs just to stay home with me, so as whenever I needed to foods or to visit washroom they are always there for me. Words can never replace the love they had given me. And being their eldest son in the family, I have burdened them more than anything else when I was just a child. With such conditions, I was suffering from severe depression.

However, thing started to change. Because of their love, care and advise from my ex-boss, who is my closed friend. I have changed my thought. I felt that I needed to do something better rather than just sentenced myself to the bed forever, disappointing those who cared for me. So I have decided to make a change.

I have tried out all sorts of TCM acupuncture, Chinese herbs, western medicine and specialised physiotherapy with a hope for a miracle that one day I can stand up and walk again. I have never given up hope and I have never given up to help people that needs my help too.

And with the encouragement from my family members and friend, I have made up my mind that since I cannot help myself in any ways. I have decided; why not I try helping others who are in needs. I know my health conditions have deterred me from doing normal community works, but I never give up. I come across this fund raising campaign portal from my friend. And I decided to give it a try.

I am starting this fund raising campaign to help one family in Vietnam. I am looking to raise USD $70,000 to help this friend of mine, who has completely lost his sight, due to chemical spilled into his eyes while at work. Due to his medical conditions, he has to borrow huge amount of loans from private finance companies to pay off his medical bills; Being blind, my friend has never given up to support his own family by working as a blind masseuse at his countryside massage parlour. His income can only fulfilled 1 meal a day for his family and the rest of the earning was to repay the interests of his loan.

With the recent covid19 virus hit worldwide, my friend lost his job as a masseuse and his debtors have been asking him for the payment. And with no choice, my friend has contacted me for help. I couldn’t help much due to my condition but at least I can see. So recently, i took food delivery job to assist him. Every day, I will wheel myself out from my house on an electric wheelchair to deliver foods to people who ordered online. It was really tough for me, as I am paralysed, rather than handicapped, as I couldn’t reach out to the doorbell to call for the customer. Few occasions I was scolded by customers due to lateness, as my electric wheelchair couldn’t speed up my delivery. But it has never discouraged me to earn money to help my blind friend.

With the recent lockdown in Vietnam, my blind friend has to move to countryside with his family to find their shelter for his child, and they are now living in a quarter in Ho Chi Minh rural areas, Vietnam, which classified as slum district. Your donation will go toward to offset their medical bills and their child education purposes.

This campaign is to raise fund for the blind friend of mine, and most importantly, for the sake of his child. They are our future. We need your kind financial supports.

You have no idea how much it means to me to have your support

Thank you in advance for your contribution.

Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Jimmy Tan
