Give Syuen The Chance To Live

Please Help 5-Years-Old Syuen Survive from Neuroblastoma Cancer and Leukaemia (Two Deadly Cancers)

In November 2018, Syuen was diagnosed with STAGE 4 HIGH-RISK NEUROBLASTOMA. She was only 2 years old then. The tumor, known as “Monster of Children’s Cancers”, is a rare cancer with a rapid and dangerous onset. The tumor have progressed as big as adult’s fist when diagnosed.

At a tender age of 2 years old, Syuen underwent 12 hours of gruelling resecting surgery. Unable to properly express her pain and discomfort, all we could do was watch as she screamed and cried. The surgery was done in Malaysia then.

After her surgery, the parents sent her to Singapore for Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. From December 2018 to April 2019, Syuen been through 6 cycles of Chemotherapy and 17 sessions of Radiotherapy. While Syuen was bedridden and attached to several machines for support, her parents were by her bedside day and night to keep her company while she was scared and alone.

Syuen’s best chance of survival is the latest Immunotherapy Hu3F8, which sadly is only available in Barcelona and New York. They had chosen to do the treatment in Barcelona as cost of treatment in New York was exorbitant.

In order to save her life, the parents had exhausted all their savings to pay for her medical treatment in Singapore (SGD 200,000++) and treatment in Barcelona (EURO 500,000++). From June 2019 to Sep 2021, Syuen underwent 18 cycles of Chemotherapy, 18 cycles of Immunotherapy and 19 sessions of Radiotherapy as well as countless and endless blood tests, bone marrow aspirations, MIBG, MRI, CT-Scan and PET-CT, and she's only 5 years old now.

During treatment, Syuen had suffered alopecia (means that your immune system mistakenly attacks a part of your body. When you have alopecia areata, cells in your immune system surround and attack your hair follicles), as well as constant fevers, body pain, and infections.

Her tumours are affecting her ability to eat. Her appearance has changed drastically, and in her short 5 years, she’s spent more time in the hospital ward than she was at home. Syuen is only 5 and does not understand what’s wrong with her, but was suddenly forced into treatments that made her incredibly ill.

In total, Syuen has relapsed 3 times! Very unfortunately, all of us were shocked by her development of secondary cancer of Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukaemia (CMML-t) in May 2021. After 6 cycles of maintenance chemotherapy in Barcelona from May-Sept, we were informed that her CMML-t has gradually progressed to Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Now she’s battling 2 deadly cancers at the same time and in a critical stage. The hospital in Barcelona are unable to treat her, and the parents are planning to send her back to Singapore for immediate rescue treatment, however it will cost us close to SGD $1,500,000 including hospitalisation fees.

The parents had run out of financial resources. As her loving parents, they’ve tried their best and they are at the end of their wits end. They have increased debts, took loan after loan, sold off all their assets, and emptied their savings. In addition to the financial costs, watching your child battle cancer is stressful and heartbreaking. They will never give up on saving their daughter’s life.
