Give Fre a Second Chance at Life

The campaign 'Give Fre a Second Chance' is aimed at raising money for Frederik de Stercke's (also known as Fre) current frail health. Due to a lack of funds, Fre is unable to cover the full costs of hospital treatment, medication and eventually Rehab on his own. Fre has suffered a mild stroke and is currently suffering and slowly recovering from Chronic Liver Disease as a result of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD)

Please find below the series of events that took place and a brief summary of Fre's current condition:

On October 18th (in the video i say November, this is an error), Frederik was found having a series of seizures in his bedroom. By chance and good luck, his friends went over because they were concerned for his health and immediately rushed him to Bali Mandara Hospital where he spent 3 weeks being stabilised back to health. Fre had suffered a mild hemorrhage, a clot was found in his brain as well as underlying pneumonia, deep vein thrombosis and type 2 diabetes. His liver a was severely inflamed and after liver and kidney function tests it was found that Fre has Chronic Liver Disease which stems from Alcohol Use Disorder.

Frederik was dismissed from the hospital and after a few days under friend’s care was admitted into 'Calm' an alcohol rehab Facility in Kerobokan. Unfortunately, the second day Frederik’s condition and cognitive abilities regressed, and he had to be taken back to the hospital for further tests. He was taken to Siloam where they conducted a full run of tests and gave him an IV treatment, after which his condition improved significantly. The hospital could treat him in patient, but this would mean he would have to go into a COVID isolation ward again for 6 days. We all agreed isolation would not be beneficial for him. After further consultation with the doctors it was therefore decided that in his condition and long-term medical rehabilitation it would be best to provide treatment to Frederik on an outpatient basis and get him professional nursing care at home. We made a few adjustments to his house , and have contracted a doctor and a professional nursing care agency.

Medical Condition:

Frederik is still recovering from a stroke and needs rest and diet to strengthen. His liver condition still seems fluctuating causing all kinds off issues but there are some signs of improvement and it looks like he does not have Cirrhosis, so with the right treatment liver function could recover but it will require time.

Funding:

With all of your help, some help from the Indonesian government, we have been able to cover all costs up to date and have enough for the first couple of weeks of home care and doctors visits etc.

The local BPJS insurance will not cover his rehabilitation.Therefore, while looking for a long-term solution to make sure we will have funding available for future steps. We appreciate if you could all share it through your network. In the meantime, any further donations are welcome.
