“Protect Their Dreams” project is a collaboration between himaya NGO and Joyce Azzam, our Child Protection Advocate.
Throughout the project, Joyce Azzam visited schools and shared her inspiring story with students to encourage them to follow their dreams and never give up in the face of hardship.
She has raised her voice for children who are silenced by abuse and carried their dreams on a flag to the highest summit in the world.
Today, Joyce continues her mission by sharing the children’s concerns with the rest of the world. Throughout her tour, Joyce will be promoting a crowdfunding campaign to raise $4000 to give access to children to protection services within education settings. The amount raised will cover 4 schools and provide prevention activities to over 800 children.
Overview on the situation in Lebanon
In light of the alarming financial crisis and unstable current situation of the country, people are focusing more on providing their families' basic needs like food, shelter, and medicine.
The stress and anxiety that is resulting from carrying this burden, is leading to increased rates of family conflicts, child abuse, and domestic violence. With protection being considered as a second-level priority at this time, not enough resources are being allocated to protect vulnerable children.
To respond to the crisis, himaya’s support is a necessity in public and private schools to raise awareness among children and caregivers, and detect cases of children at risk and refer cases of abuse.
himaya much like numerous local NGOs is facing a crisis in securing funds as all collaborations with the local private sector have become practically impossible. In Lebanon, organizations have been filling the many crucial and social gaps, induced by our government; mainly in the child protection sector.
Unfortunately at the moment, the entire public sector has very scarce resources to provide help to those in need at a time where no one should be left to suffer alone.
Today, your financial support is needed to help us continue in our mission to promote an environment suitable for the development of children and ensure their global protection via fighting and preventing child abuse.
The funds will allow us to offer awareness sessions to children who will be sensitized on the topic of child abuse, how to recognize risky situations, how to say NO, as well as how to take preventive measures to stay safe. Detected cases will be referred to himaya’s resilience program to provide the victims with psychosocial support to overcome the trauma.
The outcome and expected impact are to create and strengthen child-friendly and safe educational environments, decrease violence and risk of abuse children may face.
