For many, life stopped on August 4th, 2020 at 6:07 pm. The unimaginable explosion which devastated Beirut on that day, had a severe impact on the lives of many and most specifically, on the lives of children.
To help those young children and their families who saw their dreams fading away, Lebanese elite mountaineer, Dr. Joyce Azzam, in collaboration with the Lebanese Ice Hockey Federation (LIHF), will be climbing all Seven summits of Lebanon (higher than 3000 m), in one single day on Sunday Oct 4th 2020, a great challenge to fundraise for himaya NGO.
Since 2018, Dr. Azzam used her voice for children who are silenced by abuse and carried their dreams on a flag to the highest summit in the world (as part of the Dream project to Add link here)
Today, Joyce continues her mission as a Child Protection Advocate with the support of the LIHF athletes from around the world to crowd fund for himaya NGO so they can continue giving the care and psychological support to our children in Beirut.

Overview on the situation in Lebanon and Beirut
In light of the alarming financial crisis and unstable current situation of the country, and the explosion of Port of Beirut, people are focusing more on providing their families basic needs like food, shelter, and medicine.
The stress and anxiety that is resulting from carrying this burden, is leading to increased rates of family conflicts, child abuse, and domestic violence. A lot of children suffer from trauma after the disaster of the explosion. The children protection being considered as a second-level priority at this time, not enough resources are being allocated to protect vulnerable children.
To respond to the crisis, himaya’s support is a necessity in public and private schools to raise awareness among children and caregivers, and detect cases of children at risk and refer cases of abuse.
Today, your financial support is needed to help us continue our mission to promote an environment conducive to children's development, ensure their psychological protection, and work to restore hope and peace to their aspirations and dreams.
The result and expected impact is to create and enhance safe and child-friendly educational environments, reduce fear, anxiety, lack of sleep and food, and work to rebuild their dreams and develop their ambitions and aspirations.
About himaya NGO
himaya is a specialized NGO in the child protection sector, working to prevent violence against children and offer the support needed for abused children on a psychosocial and legal level; eventually allowing them to be reintegrated as productive and active members of society.
In 2018, himaya became a member of the International Social Service Network based in Switzerland, responding to cross border child abuse cases involving a Lebanese and a foreigner parent.
Therefore, Himaya intervened right away after the tragedy of August 4th, 2020. They have been working hard to respond instantly to the growing need of Beirut community. Here are concrete realizations since, 83 families were able to receive many services such as a 100% in psychological support, 60% in food parcels, 80% in medical supplies, 9% in hygiene kits and 12% in equipment and furniture.
But most importantly, himaya has been providing special care and support to the children who were deeply shaken and traumatized after this horrific event.
