Giselle’s Ongoing Story

Giselle (aged 10) was born with an unknown syndrome, and is one of 9 in the world.

She is an absolute trooper and has undergone multiple operations with many more to go. We are looking to raise funds to help pay for these medical bills which are not covered by our Medical Plan.

We have only recently discovered that she is hearing impaired in her left ear, with an appointment with an ENT in October to see the cause as well as how to 'fix' this.

Appointments need to be made with Orthodontists as well as Maxiofacial Specialists to look at the growing of her teeth, and the progress on her last operation, as well as undergoing constant Speech Therapy sessions on a weekly basis.

To explain Giselle's case : she was born at 30 weeks and with very little chance on survival. She has a compromised airway and pits in her palate. According to medical terms she does not have a tongue but a very little 'flap' for a tongue. Giselle was not meant to be able to talk, but after intensive speech therapy when she was 3 years old and then again now at the age of 10 she is able to speak with most people understanding her. Giselle has undergone numerous operations to lengthen and widen her bottom jaw and to make her throat a little bigger. In an operation they also cut off her corrinoids to allow her to open her mouth wider. Unfortunately there have been complications in her operations which have forced her to be in a coma for multiple days etc, but she has come out determined after every operation.
