Thirty-seven percent of girls in Nepal marry before age 18 and 10 percent are married by age 15, in spite of the fact that the minimum age of marriage under Nepali law is 20 years of age. Boys also often marry young in Nepal, though in lower numbers than girls. UNICEF data indicates that Nepal has the third highest rate of child marriage in Asia, after Bangladesh and India.
Growing up in a developing country ourselves, Claire and I understand how easy it is to fall into someone else’s expectation. Many women in Nepal were told to be a stay-home mom rather than finding their gift, marrying well rather than pursuing their dreams, doing housework for the family rather than having an ambition.
We want to help Nepalese women to see the potentials within themselves. This Christmas, Claire and I will visit Nepal and volunteer for two weeks to support a charity organisation in Nepal. On top of that, we want to get your support to donate to this charity. We'll hand the donation to this charity in Nepal.
