Last Spring Break was my favorite one- and I spent it in a ridiculous cold country run by a communist dictator.
So basically last Passover I went on this volunteer trip to a Jewish orphanage in Belarus. It's the craziest country I've ever seen. Horses pull carts down the highway, 13 year olds use handkerchiefs instead of tissues, the government sensors everything, people yell at each other a lot, and nobody smiles.
Except maybe in this orphanage/boarding school, Beit Aharon, where the kids are taught to shoot for the stars, and are prepared to continue their lives in America and Israel, where they will have more opportunities. We put together educational programming for the girls that taught values of self empowerment, dreaming big, and standing strong for what you believe in through the Jewish holiday of Passover. I've actually kept in touch with many of them and can't wait to see them again.
So my friend Hannah (originally from Chile) and I want to go this year- but we need help with the airfare. If there's extra we plan on bringing over treats and prizes that they can't get in Belarus, like kosher chocolate, books, games (i.e. a new chess set with all the pieces), and maybe some working deodorant (lol if you've been to Russia, you know what I'm talking about).
Any amount you donate is helping a sweet, awesome Belarusian girl to have fun, express herself, and think big this Spring Break.
Thank you!!!
