Gina’s volunteering trip to Uganda!

Hi everyone.

This August, I am going to Uganda in a volunteering project, led by the company 'Original Volunteers' which has a charity called Uganda Lodge Community Projects. The volunteer project is based in the South District of Uganda about 4 hours South West of Kampala.

In this time, I will be helping out at local schools, teaching them to speak fluent English, assisting the local teachers with registration, singing, games, sports, drawing and taking small teaching groups using the books available. I would also be going to local families and cooking dinner with them, having dinner with them, making some clothes and working on their farm for a few hours. Many volunteers help the builders with building latrines, repairing roofs, plastering or instead I could help in the nearby hospital.

Only £35 pounds per week is given to the organisation itself and the rest of the money is given directly to provide mosquito nets, books, food in schools, salaries of the teachers, running of the schools, building accommodation and the big project for this year is to provide clean running water throughout the town. This is estimated to cost £10,000 which is all supplied by the volunteers.

I am going to Uganda on the in August 2013, and will have lots of pictures to send around after.

The only problem, is that all in all this is going to cost £1000. I am planning to do lots of fundraising events around University but any help at all from you would be AMAZING. Even a pound would make a difference and make it easier to afford this trip.
