I have finally received acceptance for my international exchange to Rikkyo University in Tokyo, Japan! Unlike in 2017 when I traveled to Japan for three weeks, this time I will be studying abroad for four months! As exciting as this is, funds for this opportunity will be even more slim than they were for me two years ago.
I am required to pay the program fees, which include accommodation, but there are additional expenses such as a commuter's pass, linen rentals, food, etc. I have received a $1000 bursary from my home institution, St. Thomas University, but that covers only 2/3rds of my plane tickets. I also have the remainder of my student loan money, however that will just barely cover the program expenses. As I will be living abroad, I will also need funds for my day-to-day life.
If you are able to donate to this amazing education opportunity I've been given, any amount will help! I want to be able to live comfortably while abroad and not worry about whether I have enough cash on hand to get lunch or catch the train. I also want to be able to experience once-in-a-lifetime events and moments, some of which will cost money for travel or admission.
I am truly grateful to St. Thomas University and Rikkyo University for giving me this opportunity! I have been interested in and researching Japanese culture for years now and am ecstatic to be able to immerse myself in that life for 1/3 of my 2020.
(Note: All photos on this campaign are ones I took during my Intensive Japanese program back in 2017. I of course am looking forward to taking even more pictures and creating a series of vlogs for my YouTube channel so that I can share the awe and wonder of Japan with others.)
