Campaign Story
Most people are on leave or take leave during this December festive season time to freshen up for the year ahead. Let's help homeless start the year fresh too!
I recently moved to the Cape Town City Centre and the area has homeless people on every turn, it is heart breaking and haunts me daily. There are approximately 5600 homeless people in and around Cape Town and the easiest way to spot them is by how dirty they look, or how aggressively their smell catches your attention. Help give as many of them a shower this festive season The idea is to make shower facilities available to them over a period of 3 days.
Please note that I have set the minimum amount to R500, if you have less to give then bless your heart, go ahead and use it on yourself or a loved one . I've set the spend target to R30 000 and this is how I intend on using the funds.
R14 000 - Hire 2 mobile showers ( R7000 each)
This hire will be for a period of 3 days. Each "mobile box" comes with twin showers (2 people will be able to shower at a time)). They will each be set in different locations, one in the City Center and the other one at Sea Point. If we don't hit the target we will at the very least hire one "mobile box"
R6000 - Labour
We will need security guards at the premises and someone to help with the cleaning over the 3 day period. The security guards will be professional hires but those who assist on the day will be homeless people who we will compensated for their contributions.
R10 000 - Toiletries
We will need shower gels, lotion, tooth brushes, tooth paste, spray deodorant etc for their use. Tooth brushes and washing cloths will not be shared but the rest will be shared.
Date and Location
To be confirmed but tentatively on the 31 Dec 2022, 1st & 2nd Jan 2023. Cape Town City Center and Sea point
Limitations and disclaimers
Clothing items for them to change into are not included. We will do our best to find donors for clothing items. Please reach out to me directly if you are a company that has company swag, like shirts, to give OR are an organisation that can gather clothing donors in such short notice OR have money to buy them clothes OR simply have a plug of any sort.
Food supplies are also not included, they would definitely be a great add-on but due to limited resourcing and capacity I have exluded. Will be happy to work with anyone who can provide our freshly showered folks with a meal or something to eat
Your support in making this happen will be greatly appreciated! Let's clean up the homeless, even just for a day... or two!
A big thank you in advance!
