Gift of Love for My Dad

My Dad, Mr. Carlos Latag, 73 y/o, was diagnosed to have advanced stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC/Adenocarcinoma) last March 2019. He was initially diagnosed with Pneumonia in November 2018 and improved a lot after undergoing various treatment. December of the same year, the pain recurred emanating from the left side of his torso. Since then, we have been going in and out of the hospital due to his complicated condition as well as the excruciating pain from his left chest.

We were all devastated when we received the confirmatory lab results but we reminded ourselves that we can always do something to let my father live longer. Last June 5th, a pigtail catheter was inserted to his lungs to manage the accumulating fluids that makes it difficult for him to breathe.

Seeing my Dad in tormenting pain breaks not just my heart but my whole self. His condition has worsen for the past four months and the lingering pain is much more intense, that he cannot even lie in bed to sleep. With the savings that my Mom and my sister have, we were able to manage the treatment cost for the past eight months including all medications and chemo therapy sessions. But after his hospitalization last June, then again last month, we are no longer sure how much further we can sustain his medications and coming chemo therapy sessions. Currently, we are spending not less than Php 12,000 per week on his medications and we will need to spend PhP 35,000 per session for his next four chemo therapy cycles.
