Be part of the Gibson Street Gala 2016!

It's a well known fact that Glasgow does music and art well and this well loved Community Event is no exception! The Gala draws up to 10 000 visitors every year and with a bit of help we will continue to provide a huge range of entertainment!

In 2003 local residents held an event called “Bard in the Backcourt”. This subsequently inspired the idea of holding an annual tenement fair. In 2004, the West End Festival arranged for Gibson Street to be closed for the first Gala and from there it has grown and become a regular loved local event.

Every year planning begins in January when a group of volunteer organisers, local residents and traders start the process of raising funds to provide the Glasgow community with a Festival that is free to attend and include Live music and entertainment on 3 stages, Children's Entertainment, Art Fusion: a live Street Art and Graffiti street, Market product stalls and a Licensed local Restaurants and Cafe's food and drink area.

Individuals and small groups take on many different aspects of the Gala and with huge input develop events and activities to cover a 6 hour festival. These fundraising endeavors make it possible to offer free activities and free entertainment for the community by the community.

We need your help to help pay for the costs ranging from road closure to stage and music equipment hire, additional art material to provide workshops and live painting, stall framework, stewards, gazebos and much more.

Musicians, dancers and artists support us every year by performing and painting for free in front of thousands of visitors. We are incredibly lucky to have a great team and an army of volunteers that give hundreds of hours and take no fees for preparing, organising and marshalling the event each year.

Working with the local businesses of Gibson street and surrounding area we manage to secure just enough every year to cover the basic costs towards the Gala production and with your help we can make the Festival even more memorable and epic!
