Ghana Trip

It is estimated that around 2.5 million people in Ghana currently suffer from some form of mental health illness, but there are only 13 practicing psychiatrists. This means volunteering programmes are crucial.

I am currently studying Psychology as an undergraduate degree at Edge Hill University, and I am volunteering for 4 weeks, through Plan my Gap Year and I will be working and assisting within hospitals, helping trained professionals with mental health assesments and gaining an insight into psychology and mental health in a different culture. It also involves a community outreach programme which involves raising awareness through talks at schools and communities. It also means that a service can be provided to those who need it at home as well as at hospital.

This is a self-funding programme; and I need to fundraise to help me raise the funds necessary for me to go. My flights, the placement - accommodation, airport pickup and food included - registration fees, transport, visas, insurance, travel to and from the project.

Any donations - no matter how small - will be greatly appreciated and will make a huge difference to those less fortunate in Ghana. Thank you.
