Last year I went to Ghana for a month to volunteer in Kumasi Children's Home. I spent the majority of my time there looking after the babies and disabled children, who are mostly ignored and left to lie on a mattress all day with absolutely no mental stimulation. The staff at the home work hard but resources are extremely limited and the children suffer as a result. Having volunteers at the home lessens the workload of the staff and allows the children to get some individual love and attention, which some of them have never experienced!
I'm planning to go back to Ghana for six weeks starting in April to work in the orphanage again, and also to teach English in a local primary school. I'd love to get involved with some of the new projects at the home, like the development of a sensory room for the special needs children. Because I've been before I now know exactly what I need to do to make a lasting impact and I'm very keen to go back and work with the amazing kids again, but obviously doing something like this isn't cheap, especially for a student haha
So I've decided to do a sponsored bungee jump 150 feet off Titan Crane in Clydebank. I've never done anything like this before and I'm not very good with heights... but I guess you have to go to extremes to raise money! My target amount is definitely ambitious lol but if you feel you can sponsor me anything at all I would really really appreciate it, even the smallest amount will help towards covering the costs :) thank you!!
