Hello. I'd like to take a moment to ask for your help today. You see, my husband, our three children, and I will be moving out of state in a few months. We will be moving in with my mom and stepfather. My mom has bad hips and can barely walk. My stepdad has been diagnosed with dementia as well as some other health issues. Because their health is so poor, they cannot keep up with the regular home maintenance or even simple chores such as going down to the basement to do laundry. Currently, my mom is paying people to come to the house to do these things for her, but because she is self-employed and not really making any money yet, she has depleted her savings. Our being there will ensure that that these chores and repairs/maintenance are done in a timely manner with no cost to her. It will also ease her mind to know that there are other people around to help my stepdad while she is out at work.
However, both my husband and I have been unemployed for some time now, having been laid off from our respective jobs. He has been going to school to get certifications so he can get a better job, but so far neither of us has been fortunate enough to be hired anywhere. As you can imagine, money has been very tight around here. I have been looking into the easiest and cheapest way to get all of our stuff moved at once rather than a car load at a time. Right now, it looks like a "U-Pack" type of service (you pack, they drive) will cost roughly the same as renting a giant truck (when you factor in gas, insurance, mileage, etc). This service would also free us up to drive both of our cars out there rather than trying to tow one (which would be an additional cost) and to be honest, neither of us is entirely comfortable driving a 26 foot long truck!
The estimate I received for a move of this size and distance was $1500 which is really not unreasonable. Except for the fact that I don't have $1500 to spare. My husband will be finishing his classes by the end of October and hopes to have passed all of his certification tests by the end of November. Our plan is to move when he has completed all of that. The kids will have to change schools, which I know will be hard for them, but the schools in the new city are academically better. I know this move will be beneficial for everyone involved. Please help us achieve it! Even if you can only spare a dollar or two, it would help us immensely.
I thank you for taking the time to read this. May you have a wonderful day!
