Getting On My Feet

On Thursday, October 12, 2018, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism of which is a genetic condition I've inherited. My doctor prescribed me with "levothyroxine" to balance the thyroid glands' ability to produce T3 and T4 hormones necessary to increase my metabolism, my energy levels, and lessen the severity of my depressive state that got worse when I graduated from the MSW program at UM.

October was filled with extreme mood shifts and irritability. I was no longer in control of my mental functions and I was unsure as to why. So, I did what anyone would do, brush it off as nothing.

On Wednesday, November 7th, 2018, my friend Jaedah took me to St. Joseph's ER because I was having very serious manic episode. During that week, I had gotten about 5 hours of sleep over a three day span and 2.5 hours in one day.

With the help of Community Mental Health, they were able to identify a residential center as a space I needed given how different this hospital visit was to others (I went in twice in April - both times to address suicidal ideation and once because of an overdose and struggling with being jobless basically all year).

The residential center was exactly where I needed to be to heal, learn about myself, love myself, love others, care for myself and be willing to be cared for, and getting the rest I needed. I cannot express how much this place has changed my entire being. I can finally be the person I've always been.

Today, I was officially diagnosed with bipolar II. The diagnosis makes sense to me and is going to help me understand myself in relation to myself and others. It is exciting for me.

Unfortunately, I have no money at all for when I am discharged. Moving isn't an option because I JUST got at job at the Jewish Community Center of Ann Arbor thanks to my friend Katherine. I normally wouldn't ask for help like this, but I really need you to help me get on my feet. I intend to apply to a second job at the facility that I've been receiving treatment, support, empowerment, positive sense of self, and hope and happiness for each day. I have an endless amount of interests and I want to share my gifts with the world.

In return, I can repay you, do work for you during down time (for free), babysit, be there for you in times of crisis, celebrate you, send you a handwritten card, etc. (just be aware that I rely on buses to get around because driving terrifies me). I want to be sure that you know that I appreciate you. So, please don't hesitate to reach out to me for anything.
