Hi, we are, Sverre and Hanna, doing a gap year, supporting people with disabilities on their way to independence in there every day life. We are working on a volunteering basic, not getting paid, and have to live with a small pocket money for food.

Last year we started our long journey from Hamburg with a 50-hour travel to the most awesome place in the world - New Zealand. Our start here was very easy. We love our job, the residents, our colleagues and the new challenges and experiences.

Then we did our first mistake here, we bought a Subaru Legacy from other volunteers. If you think volunteers are honest to each other, you are wrong. Mostly they are, but we got an old grey lady for $1600 with empty promises. She looked nice and acceptable at the beginning. Then she started to jump, was petulant and became incontinent.
We brought her to a repair shop and invested $1900 into her. Which was our second mistake. First we thought everything is fine with her. She was feeling better and was in a good mood. Wrong, after only 2 months she started to have a will of her own again.

Now we had to agonise about a decision. Should we scrap her or should we pay again $1200 for a new airbag system.
With a heavy heart we made a decision. She has to go. Yes, we will scrap her. We don't want to ignore the control lights and we don't want to end up with smashed heads. We want to drive safely through this year!

At the moment we have not enough money for buying a “new” car. But in our job and generally in New Zealand you have definitely to rely on your car. So, we want to pull out all the stops for a new friendly car. It doesn't matter if it's a she or a he. We would be really happy about every donation we can get.

We are open for any questions!
