Sean Smith (16) suffered serious burn wounds on Monday (17 October 2016) when his shirt caught fire.
Sean was taken to the nearest hospital UNITAS (private), unfortunately his mother does not have medical aid and cannot afford the costs of a private hospital he was then discharged to a government hospital on 21 October 2016.
We raising funds to get Sean admitted to Milpark hospital in Johannesburg, they specialize in burns.
Sean is out of ICU He is in the ward this is wonderful for him but for us visiting him we have to obey the visiting hours now. In burns ICU we were allowed to come whenever we wanted from 4h00 - 22h00.
If all goes according to plan Sean will go to theater tomorrow for skin grafting.
Thank you to all the nursing staff in Burns ICU for the amazing care you gave to Sean and helping him on his road to recovery. I don't know all of you but I know some of you follow his updates. Thank you thank you#KeepSeanInMilpark
#HeroSean went to theater today after 14h00 and was back in his room at 15h15.
He is still on the ventilator and they keeping him sedated and controlling his pain.
The nursing staff and doctors looking after him is amazing, friendly and compassionate, they looking after him so nice. They looking after his lung as well and when he came out of theater they did another X-ray. He received blood today. Both his hands are open now and his face. From what I've seen on other burn survivors his hands and face looks nice Unfortunately we missed the Doctor so we didn't speak to him. In the 3 days that he is in burns ICU I can see a big improvement.
Thank you for all the support, prayers and funds for #HeroSean. Thank you to all the staff at Milpark burns ICU for looking after Sean. Words cannot explain how I feel and how relieved I am that he is now in well equipped burns unit.
Most of all Almighty God is protecting Sean and he hears our prayers most definitely. We could not come this far without him #KeepSeanInMilpark
On arrival the Dr told us that Sean's left lung collapsed, thankfully he picked it up immediately when he was brought into resus.
The doctor explained to us that he is going to put a tight masks on for him to help bring up the lung and he will monitor him for the next 4 hours. Should that not be working to his satisfaction he would have to put him back on the ventilator. Let's pray that he can do this without the ventilator. I could see that he was very tired.
I have full faith in the Doctors. The nurses made us feel so comfortable and at home.
He will be going to theater after 14h00
Tonight will be the first night in 2 weeks that my mind is at ease.
I know he is in safe hands and in a safe & secured environment.
Thank you to everyone for your prayers and well wishes!
Be brave and strong Sean you have so many people praying for you. You are a true hero and I know you can do this.
Thank you Annerie - Hero Burn Foundation for all your love, support, hard work behind the scenes. Words are not enough but please know that you are also my #Hero
