Get us moving so we can get NZ moving again

Like many other tourism businesses our small family business (Cheeky Kiwi Travel) has been devastated by Covid-19 however we have not sat on our hands and felt sorry for ourselves. Noticing that Kiwi's will have less transport options around the country because of reduced flights etc we have built a nationwide transport network under a sister company named Cheeky Kiwi Transport which services include:

Small group intercity/town scheduled bus services to link big and small towns/cities which have reduced flights
Small group Transfer services for conferences and events
Small group Transport services for wedding & birthdays
Domestic packages to help Kiwi’s get to some amazing places that are now harder to get to so they can support those local communities while seeing our beautiful country.

Redesign of existing tour product and new packages to make sure they are more accessible for the domestic market.

We have rebuilt the business and built a new/extra website for the new services. We have the vehicles ready to go, second to none technology, our safety plans and processes are set up and our staff are ready to get kiwis moving again however we have hit a wall.

Unfortunately, we have been hit with the perfect storm. Tens of thousands of dollars of refunds and countless cancellations. Now normally this would be manageable, we are a business and plan for bad times, right? Yes of course we do and we made sure money was aside to refund every customer that had booked in advance all of which has been refunded already (it’s only the right thing to do). Our perfect storm peaked however when on top of the refunds and cancellation the many agents that booked our tours decided not to or couldn’t pay us what they owed us for the work we had already completed so our little ship starts taking on water. This money was going to fund our new direction and keep our people going.

The banks and government won’t help because we are in the tourism sector. Even though we have a great plan to innovate and move forward in a different direction which our accountants and consultants say is solid, an amazing reputation and history of success they see a tourism business and have been told they can’t help tourism. All we want is our staff employed and back on the road again. We want to show you all this amazing country we love and know so well and we want to share with you all. We also hope that just maybe by getting Kiwi’s moving around the country again when fewer transport options are available, we do our small part to get the economy moving again as well.

So here is a line we could never imagine typing just a few short weeks ago. We ask for your help to get us moving again and in turn we create more options to get Kiwi’s moving again as well.

The donations no matter how small will be spent on making sure the new direction of the business is achieved, keeping those vehicles running, staff employed, educating the public on their new transport options and ensuring a loved small family tourism business is here to serve both Kiwi’s and our international guest when they start to return.
