All life is extremely fragile and can be taken away in a moments notice. Yet somehow, mankind has found a way to cradle life, and I believe that nothing could be more rewarding than saving a life. Modern medicine simply is miraculous in how with the diligent study of biology, doctors have the ability to grasp fleeting life and restore it to a fighting patient. I always knew biology was where I would find my passion. I find nothing more amazing than the endless possibilities biology brings and how it continues to provide new opportunities.

My sophomore year of high school I fell ill and was constantly misdiagnosed, and turned away by doctors because they simply could not find the answer. I began to lose my faith in modern medicine, yet my love for biology intensified. I proceeded to study and read scholarly articles on diseases, along with other medical diagnoses. I began to realize my life’s work would begin in Human Biology, so that I could use my knowledge to find answers for others who are losing hope. After four years, during the summer before I was to start my sophomore year in college, I was diagnosed with Mitochondrial disease. My faith was restored; my doctors had not failed me.

This instilled a drive that was unparalleled by anything in my life. I will become a doctor and help others live the most optimal life possible. I started coursework to help prepare for a major in human biology. I found a deep focus in biology and understanding how broad and full of chances for advancements it contained. I took extra consideration of inheritable diseases; I am intrigued by how the diseases are expressed and how treatments can be found. I plan to work with patients with ailments such as cancer, Parkinson's, Lou Gehrig's disease, and so many more. Genetics is also a priority in my studies. So much of human biology is based on DNA, the basis of all life. Through genetics, so many answers to maintaining inheritable diseases can be found. Many diseases that occur cellularly have no cure or treatments, I plan to change this with diligent course work and fixated patient care. I have chosen genetics and inheritable diseases as a prime choice of specialty.

For lower division coursework, I am beginning to gain the building blocks necessary to being a doctor. I take extra note in all my coursework and apply it to real studies, to get a full understanding of the material and how it applies to medicine. I have sat with multiple doctors of varying specialties and discussed how my courses will help define human biology. I have toured hospitals and imagined how I would soon be among the elite doctors. A strong goal oriented attitude and an outstanding drive to help others; I have found human biology in my pursuit of becoming a doctor.

This is my personal statement, so hopefully it resonates, and it helps you understand my need for donations because med school is not cheap.
