My name is Devon Sopoaga, and I’m 15 years old. I am a Year 10 student at Wellington College in which I have been selected for the Wellington College 1st XV Rugby Team to tour Argentina in April 2020. I am a proud Samoan who was born in Japan, but raised here in Wellington. My parents are Matt and Trish Sopoaga, while I have two younger sisters, Rylee-Keyz and Maddison.
I am passionate about my rugby, along with many other sports, and I pray that one day, I will become a successful professional rugby player where I can earn a living doing what I love to do, and that is playing rugby. I also dream to become a Police Officer, someone that can make a difference in the community, serving for the greater good of all. I enjoy going to school, going to church, and most importantly, spending time with my family and being the best brother I can be for my sisters.
This year, I have had the privilege of being a part of the Wellington College Rugby Under 15 A team which finally broke a 10 year drought by winning the Under 15 Division 1 Fr Gus Hill Cup this year. I’ve also have the honor of being selected to attend the Wellington Under 16 Mick Williement Camp in which was a highlight for me and for the development of my game.
Being selected to represent the Wellington College 1st XV Rugby Team to tour Argentina, in a once in a life time opportunity is a huge honour and a privilege, and all glory to the Lord for blessing me with this gift and also to my family who are always supporting me in everything I do.
With your kind and generous sponsor, this will help me get on that plane to Argentina in 2020 and represent the Wellington College 1st XV . I am very grateful for your love and support and I will forever be thankful for your contribution in my journey to getting to Argentina.
