My name is Ashley Jones. I am 20 years old. I am a 2nd year med student at the University of Rosario in Argentina. I returned home to Jamaica in February to surprise my dad for his birthday. I was meant to return to Argentina in April but was unable to due to the borders closing because of Covid. The Argentine borders have now reopened to international flights so I am now able to return to school.

I am a very passionate student, I was able to move to a new country, learn a new language all while passing all my courses. In high school I graduated with a distinction and 11 CSEC or CXC ( the examination body of the Caribbean) subjects. I was the president of the debate club and the Captain of the debate team.

My first year of school was funded by my mother as my father who raised me suffered a stroke in 2018 that rendered him unable to walk which means he could no longer work. My mother has been absent for the majority of my life as she lives in England and I live in Jamaica. She agreed to help me through university but to my surprise when I tried to talk to her about returning to Argentina a few weeks ago she told me that she will no longer be financing my studies as I am an adult and she is tired of having to take care of my responsibilities so I need to figure it out on my own.

This completely broke my heart as all I want to do is accomplish my dream of becoming a surgeon and to create a better life for myself and help my dad. I have applied to multiple jobs but I have not been successful with any that I have applied.

I am now resorting to crowdfunding as my final attempt to be able to return to school. I am trying to raise funds to cover my airfare (ticket), my living expenses( rent, bills and food) for at most the first three months while I try to find a job and also to cover my immigration fees as well.

I would appreciate any assistance that I can get, please donate in any way that you can or just help me to share my story to others who may be able to, I really want to get back to school and continue my studies. Thank you for listening to my story.
