Hi, my name is Andrew Donaldson. I am a second-year student at Shasta College in Redding, CA.

I love learning about and working with computers and technology. I am the "go-to" person in my friends and family for tech support, and I also volunteer to diagnose and fix problems with the computers at my church. (By the way, I am a PC-lover and do not like Apple products).

Therefore, my dream is to pursue a career in the computer industry, either as an IT technician for a business or as a person who works directly for a computer company. Thus, I am planning to transfer to Chico State to finish my bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems. With this degree, I would have the skills necessary to get a high-paying job in the computer industry.

However, my parents cannot afford to pay for my college expenses. Since I do not want to take out any student loans, I am trying to raise money to pay for college tuition, books, and living expenses out-of-pocket.

I am eligible for the Cal Grant, so I will receive a maximum of $5,970 toward my tuition each year. However, I am still on my own to pay for the following expenses listed on the Cost of Attendance page on Chico State's website:

  • Tuition/Fees: $1,464
  • Books/Supplies: $1,656
  • Room/Board: $10,864
  • Transportation: $1,032
  • Personal: $2,748
  • Total for 1 year: $17,764
  • TOTAL FOR 2 YEARS: $35,528

Although this sounds like a lot of money, any amount of money that I receive from this fundraiser will help a lot, as I am hope to get some money from scholarships as well. Therefore, I am going to be conservative and set my goal at $8,000 and allow for overfunding.
