Log of an emergency

Last Thursday, September 20, my sister, Geraldine Arzolay, suffered from severe pain in her right eye. He already had a week of constant dizziness, had gone to the doctor and had been prescribed antibiotic treatment, which he did not manage to take. That morning he woke up with intense pain, went out into the street and there he fainted. In the emergency room, after the proper procedures, a tumor was detected in his brain. The medical report diagnoses: 3rd ventricle tumor. This lesion was causing triventirucular obstructive hydrocephalus.

The only way to save his life was to perform an operation in order to place in his brain two valves called: Valve ventricle peritoneal pressure medium. If the operation was not performed, my sister would die. Each of these valves had a cost of $ 1550 and we had to acquire them in an emergency. We obtained the valves thanks to the solidarity of some colleagues who gave the main part of their daily budget as a loan. This amount must be canceled.

The operation took place on Friday, September 21. Thanks to the diligence of several relatives and the generosity and support of the neurosurgeon doctor Marco A. Ojeda Z, who made the intervention, my sister is still with us today. The intervention was a class that the specialist dictated for the benefit of his postgraduate students in the General Hospital of Lídice Dr. Jesús Yerena of Caracas. It lasted more than three and a half hours, and it concluded satisfactorily. That same day was extracted and taken to study cerebrospinal fluid.

On Saturday, September 22, she was transferred from the hospital to another medical center for a CT scan that cost $ 170, but was donated by a generous person. Each month you must perform a study of this type.

On Monday, September 25, she was discharged . Thank you God Geraldine was released on the morning of Monday the 25th, to continue his recovery at home.

We do not have the resources

Our father Luis Gerardo Arzolay is retired. After a life of work in a public institution, his pension does not reach a full market. It does not have the resources to face the magnitude of the expenses that this medical condition represents. Geraldine has a degree in Psychology and works at the NGO Cofavic here in Caracas. Nor does he have the resources to face the expenses of his condition. The reality is that living in Venezuela nobody has the economic strength to face these expenses.

The funds will be used to cover operating expenses, treatment, diagnosis and recovery

I must begin by emphasizing that the economic situation in Venezuela at this time, as is well known, is complicated and difficult. We do not have the resources to cope with the level of expenses that this condition requires.

In the first phase of this emergency, which consisted of the surgery for the placement of the valves, a debt of $ 3100 was acquired, which we must honor. In addition, we acquired other commitments in order to cover expenses such as: cost of transportation by ambulance, emergency expenses, medications, expenses of tomographies and other studies and examinations. In Venezuela each implement, each needle, each examination must be canceled by the patient, otherwise there is no way to perform them.

The second phase of this emergency consists of the regular and control studies that Geraldine must take from the next few days and consecutively over the next few months. Even without knowing today (September 28, 2018) the nature of the tumor; we already have a series of medical control expenses; for example, the aforementioned tomography, which must be done in principle monthly and has a cost of $ 170. In this phase we have expenses in antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and medical appointments.

The third phase of expenses is related to the diagnosis of the tumor and the medical implications of this diagnosis, which I will be reporting in a truthful and timely manner.

Who writes?
My name is Ingrid Arzolay, and I live inVenezuela. I am the sister of Geraldine Arzolay. I opened the GoFudMe campaign to request resources for her, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor on September 20, 2018. The tumor caused an obstructive triventirucular hydrocephalus, which required an urgent operation.

The first announcement

On September 21 the first call of this emergency was made, which left written below:

regards

Last night we were informed of the presence of a brain tumor in my sister Geraldine Arzolay.

The solution is an operation for the installation of 2 valves in the brain. If this is not done before 24 hours, she will collapse. The price of the valves is 1550 dollars each.

For the above, I appreciate any possibility of collaboration.
