I live in the city of Houston, Tx. and a little disappointed that the city has not made more of effort to go greener nor promoting people to do so. After my heart attack I have been doing a lot of reading on life and achieving more, I want to start providing a better and healthier life for my family, friends and community. Our home offers a large piece of land (for the city) and a lot of it is not used for much. My yard is one of those areas, it currently is ½ acre of land but ¼ acre can be used for something other than just being mowed.  I am wanting to build a geodesic greenhouse with an aquaponic garden inside. The aquaponic greenhouse will be set up like a natural swimming hole which will include several different plant life and fresh water fish that will be raised and treated humanely. In this system it will all be self-sustaining and self-contained with very little need for human maintenance. The greenhouse will contain several growing and life sustaining techniques I am currently using on my patio garden. The project will combine ideas from readings and methods already in use, but not combined into one system.

The ecosystem that I will be building will be combining several types of systems to make one complete system. To list some of the methods I am combining- hydroponics, aquaponics, water ionizing, water fractal, water imploding, aquascaping and natural pool systems. I will incorporate using a geothermal design to help warm the water in the winter months and keep it cool during the summer months. Currently I have a small aquaponic system set up on my back patio, using hydroponics, aquaponics, water ionizing and water fractal. It is working perfectly, considering it is my first time building and running the system. This little system is a 120 gallon system and cost about $300.00 to make from pieces.  The one that I have in mind will be over 30,000 gallons of water total which brings us to my estimate of $100,000.00 needed for the project.  The entire greenhouse will measure 60 feet by 60 feet.

The geodesic greenhouse I plan to build, has been found to be the strongest structurally and the best design out there.  Ninety percent of the water will sit in the lowest part of the system where it is set up like a pond.  Then the water will be pushed from the bottom up to the plant beds where they will be filtered and cleaned by the plants through a natural process called aquaponics. Aquaponics is a method of cultivating both crops and fish in a controlled environment. The system will be set-up to use the least amount of mechanical pumps and filters as possible.  The goal is to keep it as a natural and organic process as possible with very little power to operate. The electricity/power that is required will be provided by solar power panels, to keep the system self-sustaining. The plan will incorporate several waterfalls to reduce the need for air pumps and to power a generator to produce power as well. Once the system is built there will be little to no waste as everything in the water and plants is used up and recycled leaving nothing but its own little environment.

The system will offer and encourage swimming in the water or to catch fish on a small pier that will be built to walk over the pond area.  The greenhouse will have a classroom and entertaining area, so we can give classes and host parties for events. The plan also includes relaxing waterfalls near sitting/gathering, yoga and workout areas. I intend to operate the system for the public to visit and rent for educational purposes and events.

The system will be producing way more fish and produce for my family to consume that I plan on giving away surplus to the community who participate in classes and demonstrations.  The plan is also to sell extra fish and vegetables to local restaurants to promote buying local.

The cost of the complete system will include the following:

-City inspections and permits, since it will be located within the city limits of Houston, TX

-A certified architect to do blueprints of construction

-A certified contractor to come out and do the manual labor involved, whatever cannot be done by myself or volunteers

-Cost of materials needed to complete the project (those items that cannot come from recycled or renewable sources)

DIY projects posted online for each individual project ranges from $50,000.00 to $75,000.00, so we are adding a bit more to cover the cost for professionals to come out and complete the system for us.

Once the project has been completed the plan is to reach out to local schools and the community to give tours and classes to encourage people in the city to start farming on their property. We want to encourage people to live healthier and longer. Incorporating a Zen garden and pool/spa area as well. The idea is that this ecosystem will be more of an experience and adventure then just an outdoor garden. Gardening should not be boring and a task. It should be fun, relaxing and a holistic experience for you and everyone involved. A place to learn, grow and experience the circle of life.

Please help this dream come true. The reason behind the set date is because September is towards the end of summer, so it’s not as hot to work outside and the date selected is my birthday. My only birthday wish this year is to get this project up and running. Thank you for your time and helping out!

"Everything is corpuscular, even energy and light waves. Even matter is inert energy. This also applies to blood, which is a materialized power flow that carries energy from past generations through present to future generations. This flow is not broken with the person's death, but is carried further to his successors. However, this energy can be degenerated, for example, by negative technology, so that the thoughts and outlook which have accumulated within a person's being over thousands of years, is lost. It is possible for the person who has the advantage of this gift of inheritance to summon up from his blood all this reservoir of knowledge." – Viktor Schauberger
