Geli Yray’s Battle with Cervical Cancer

Our dear friend, Maria Angelica "Geli" Yray was diagnosed with Stage 2 Cervical Cancer last November 2018. She's a thoughtful friend, a lovely daughter & sister, a loving wife & mother to their only child, an 8-year old little girl.

With the help and support of her family and friends, we’ve held out very well so far when it comes to providing therapies and medicines for her to get back on her feet.

The first therapy started in January 2019: Chemotherapy 6 sessions, 7-day cycle.

The second therapy started in April 2019: Chemo-radiation therapy chemotherapy 6 sessions, 7-day cycle + Radiation therapy for 28 days.

The third therapy started in July 2019: LDR Brachytherapy, 4 sessions, once a week.

However, it was found out that the tumor is persistent after a month of observation.

She was advised to undergo another series of chemotherapy with a higher dosage and hopefully, undergo surgery to remove her cervix, uterus, and ovaries to avoid the spreading of the cancer cell.

She has been experiencing severe lower back pain due to the thinning of her lower spine and her nerves were compressed by the tumor. Often times, she would lay down to bed, unwilling to move. She uses topical ointment to temporarily alleviate the pain.

Early this year, she was treated at Makati Medical Center and underwent 10 sessions of Tomotherapy. She completed them last March 13, 2020.

Before completing her therapy, she was rushed to the hospital last March 7, 2020 due to excruciating pain. It turns out that her kidneys got swollen because of the tumor compressing them, resulting in difficulty in passing urine. The doctors resorted to the insertion of bilateral nephrostomy tubes on both of her kidneys to help the organs function normally.

UPDATE AS OF APRIL 26, 2020:

Geli has been in and out of Makati Medical Center since February 2020 for pain management and had Brachytherapy last April 8, 2020. There are days when she would scream due to unbearable pain. :(

Last April 17, 2020, she was once again admitted for intolerable pain and leaking nephrostomy tubes. As the tumor is actively growing, she's getting complications in passing stool too. She underwent colostomy procedure earlier today and she is continuously fighting to recover from the recent surgery. She needs to undergo increased level of radiation therapy in the next weeks to come to suppress the tumor's growth and hopefully extract it from Geli's body at the soonest possible time.

These are the partial payments made for Geli's most recent admission (excluding hospital bills for the procedure and other charges from April 26, 2020).

As she continues to fight and overcome this battle, the costs of treatments and medications continue to rise as well. It has come to a point where they have already maximized their savings and resources, thus needing further financial support.

Geli has always been a fighter and probably one of the bravest person we know. She has a strong will to live and be with her family and friends for many years to come.

It is every mother's dream to see their child grow up and have family and kids of their own. Let's help Geli realize this dream. Let's help her win this battle so she can live a long and happy life with her family.
