Geek In Heels, founded in 2013, is a specialized device repair business created by Shalisha Morgan. What started as a mobile repair business, Geek In Heels opened its very first brick and mortar location inside of Hanes Mall December 2018 after quitting her corporate job to pursue her dreams. In May, Shalisha received her first business award for being 'Most Innovative Small Business in the Triad'. Geek In Heels has clearly caused a disruption in the repair industry by breaking the mold of what a standard 'repair tech/geek' looks like. Shalisha took $2000 of her college financial aid money and purchased parts, signage, equipment, ran a few social media ads and the Urban League financially backed my first-months lease to start my first brick and mortar this past December of 2018. In the past eight months of solely running and operating The Geek In Heels, LLC, working seven days a week she has serviced 497 clients and grossed $47K in sales. Taking all that she has made and putting it back into her business daily to purchase parts, pay for space and hire staff has not been easy but it has been a learning experience. In the past few weeks, Geek In Heels has seen an increase in demand for services; unfortunately, has not been able to meet the need due to lack of parts and staff. Looking ahead with plans to scale up the business she has come to the realization that she will not be able to get to the next level by continuing to bootstrap.
After eight months and nearly 500 clients serviced Geek In Heels is ready to scale her business by expanding. With expansion creates a need for capital in order to purchase equipment, parts, hire qualified staff members and purchase a custom repair kiosk in order to facilitate more clients. Shalisha Morgan, a Black Woman Who Builds, is also aspiring to take her repair business to the next level by becoming an authorized Apple Repair service location. Without being an authorized center Shalisha has completed 492 repairs in eight months. Imagine how many more devices can be repaired with a full staff, equipment, space and Apple certification?
