Fundraising for 7 Students to attend World Championships in California April 2013
The 2012-2013 VEX challenge is to design a robot, made from VEX parts, to score as many sacks into troughs as is possible in a time of 2 minutes. Part of the 2 minutes requires the robots to have been programmed by the student to run autonomously. The remaining period is under driver control using an X Box type joystick. The competitions are frantic, as robots attempt to score sacks or to de-score sacks. To meet the challenge each team has to learn to use microcontrollers, sensors, gears, pulleys and pneumatics to enhance their robot as it seeks to be the best in the world.
A consequence of the excellence award is a qualification to participate in the VEX World Championships in April at the Anaheim Events Centre in California. Here 500 other winners will battle it out to be the worlds best.
The Excellence Award
This is the highest VEX award in New Zealand and was awarded to Glenfield College at the NZ Nationals. It is awarded to the Team which has made the greatest contribution to the VEX competition, to furthering the principles of education in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and to their local community.
The Excellence Award gains the team a place in the VEX Robotics World Championships in Anaheim Los Angeles in April 2013. The best 500 teams world wide compete for title of world champions. Our team is really excited at the opportunity to represent NZ in the competition.
We are aiming to take 7 students To California for the Worlds
We would love support to get some of our students to the World Championships in April.
It’s an amazing competition which is seeing students graduate into society with much sort after skills. Their contributions after finishing school continue to be felt as students come back to support those that follow after. It costs around $2800 per student to attend and most of our students have minimal cash flow at home to enable them to go. Any contributions would be greatly received. We will have a banner made for the worlds to promote the team and our sponsors. It will be displayed in a prominent place in the pits and will be seen by 1000s of people
