Gatis Community Space

Who are we? Gatis Gardeners are a small but growing group of people looking to save Gatis Street Adventure Playground for community use once the council shut it down due to funding cuts.   What are we doing? We are negotiating with the council to take over the building for a set period of time to trial a number of projects, groups, ideas and activities.  These ideas all have community support and development at their heart and include such ideas as gardening clubs, community cinema, cooking on a budget, upcyling and clothing repairs, crafts, outdoor activities, health and fitness as well as being available for people to hire for celebtrations.   What do we need the money for? We are currently fundraising to help towards the cost of the building, we have been able to raise funds for specific projects but many of these dont include money for the basics of running a building such as services and cleaning materials and things like administrative costs.  We are hoping that long term we can put together a sustainable business plan based on the activities we are trialling but we are starting from a budget of nothing, a lot of volunteer hours and the love of community.  so please if you can even spare us a few pennies it will mean the world to us to get this off the ground in the way we envisage we can.   How can you help or get involved? The easiest way to help is to donate, you dont even have to leave your chair!  But we also encourage anyone local who may have skills or time to get in touch, volunteer, offer help or even if you have a business or activity idea that you feel would suit the building and grounds let us know.  We are open to the craziest of ideas becasue sometimes they lead to great things.  Contact us via [email protected].
