Gateway to the Continent: Britain’s High Speed Rail

During a recent trip to Paris (for no known reason) I started to think about the Eurostar and how Britain is developing its high-speed rail networks. After a few weeks of casual reading and watching I began to realise that the whole HS1 line that runs from London to Paris is massively miss-understood.

That’s when I decided this type of documentary needs to be made. This kickstarter is a platform for us to get help in achieving our goals and this is your chance to be part of something unique and special. We're giving you the opportunity to help us discover the niche world of high speed.

With two fellow journalists (Andrew and James) we created a production company and started sending e-mails, watching videos and slowly began to build a pre-production base to create a documentary of Britain’s High speed rail network. We plan to explore the world of high-speed travel in the UK; its roots (how it all came around), how it links into continental Europe via the Channel Tunnel and what plan are being set in place for the future of Britain's high speed rail, we are even planning a race from Guildford to the Eiffel Tower in an exciting comparison between flight and high speed rail!

As we began to progress and gather material we needed, it started to become apparent that this wasn’t going to be an easy or cheap expedition. We have to go to Belgium, twice, then to Paris, three times (one of which is flying) and then across a wide-range of location throughout South East and West England. We need your help to help get to these places across continental Europe and get what we need to put this documentary together.

On student budgets and in combination with a university that provides no funding what so ever, we are struggling to put together the funds we need to get where we want to go. You can be part of a fantastic project; all we need is your support. Everyone’s help is appreciated and everyone that does help WILL be credited in the final title sequences.

We are also currently working on a website so you can keep up-to-date with the latest with what is happening and hopefully see a few embarrassing (for us not you) outtakes from the camera, yes you will see raw footage of what we make, we will also upload photos from location shootings and places we go whilst filming.
