Gap Medics

In the summer of 2015 we are planning to embark on a trip to East Africa for two weeks, for which we are beginning to fundraise. We intend to use this trip to give us an insight into the world of medicine in less advantaged countries. It will also allow us to gain valuable experience, which will help us in our future careers in medicine.

The trip will involve us volunteering in a hospital in Africa, which will provide us with an experience in tropical medicine and in working in challenging conditions with the doctors and nurses who work there. Moreover, we will be able to experience and learn about different cultures through medicine, as traditional tribal medicine practices are often used in the hospitals there. On this journey we will also have the opportunity to spend time volunteering at the local orphanage so we can give something back to the community during our stay.

Another opportunity that we will gain through journeying to Africa is that it will allow us to connect with people from all around the globe, enabling us to learn about healthcare from different places. Furthermore, we will learn essential communication skills, which will be a requirement in our future careers in medicine.

We have set up this funding page so all of you are able to support us by donating any amount of money, helping us to make our ambition a reality. We are hoping to raise a total of £4000 by the summer.
