Kingston Memorial Nursery School, Lamin Darank,The Gambia
Elizabeth Jarju is the proprietor of the Kingstom Memorial Nursery School which is catering for over 250 children age 3 - 6, in 4 very basic overcrowded classrooms which are not fit for purpose. Elizabeth is currently renting this building from a local landowner, and can be evicted at any time. She has now purchased her own piece of land, and is in need of support to raise the money to build the classrooms and facilities.
?Through building these permanent classrooms, on land which she now owns, Elizabeth will be able to ensure a lasting legacy for a permanent school, that can be passed on to the teachers of the future so that this school remains forever for the benefit of the community. Our current fundraising project is to raise £10,000 for the building of 5 new class rooms, a staff room, a store and 3 toilets. These are to be built on the newly acquired land for the Kingstom Memorial Nursery School.
?Elizabeth is a very dedicated teacher and has committed her life to the running of the school and her pupils. Her school is in a very poor area, and not all the families can afford to send their children to school, Elizabeth currently provides 25% of the places at her school free of charge. There are currently no free state nursery schools, the cost to send one child to Kingstom Nursery School is £15 per year.
Having visited several schools in April 2013, we were extremely impressed by Elizabeth's commitment and professionalism. The children's level of literacy and numeracy at Kingstom Nursery was above other schools we visited, and they were so happy to be at school.
Please help support as in realizing this dream for Elizabeth and the children of Kingstom Memorial Nursery School.
