Galston Gladiators Kickboxing Club have had 3 students ( Jonathan Torrie , Ben Stitt , Maryjane Torrie ) and their coach ( Craig Foster ) selected to represent the WKU Scotland team at the WKU 2018 World Championships in Athens.

This is a tremendous achievement for such a small club who are being recognised for their efforts and talent with the chance to compete at the highest level in the sport. Unfortunately there is a considerable cost associated with this and as Kickboxing does not receive government funding like mainstream sports everything these athletes do is self funded and with them already travelling across the UK to compete we really feel a need to raise funds and provide the support to hopefully help them bring home Gold.

We have a few things in the pipeline ( Fitness challenge , half marathon etc ) but first up is one of the Club volunteers ( Gordon Stitt ) who is going to undertake an 8 week biggest loser challenge by following a strict eating and training plan in an attempt to get fitter and leaner . This will by no means be easy as Gordon likes his food and doing without beer for 8 weeks will be an achievement on its own.

Next up is Karen Torrie. Karen is finally taking her foot out her mouth and putting it to good use by running the Glasgow Half Marathon.

Karen only started running after joining the Gladiators. Starting at the very basics, half mile runs, leading to 1mile runs etc. it has taking her years to build up the ability to run over a few miles. Running is fantastic for both Mental and Physical health, if you see her running the streets of Galston remember not everyone’s goal is weight loss!

The Half Marathon is on Sunday the 30th of September and as Karen has never ran this distance, she will need to put the work in!

GO GLADIATORS !!!

We are hoping our efforts will be appreciated and people will feel encouraged to donate to this very worthy cause .
