Jay-Jay Venter was born on the 25th of March 1982, in a small town Bloemfontein in South Africa.
He was born with Hydrocephalus, which injured a part of his brain that left him with the mental functioning capacity of a 4 year child.
He had his first operation when he was 10 months old and another operation at 11 years old. The Dr's estimate that he will not live beyond 16 years of age, but currently a tall guy of 37 years old.
He is in the care of his 70 year old mother who still have to work half day to take care of her son needs. She lost her husband a few months ago after a long period which left him incapacitated after his stroke and heart conditions, which forced her to go work again after 60 to take care of her them. Her income is less than R7, 500 per month and they staying at the Engo Retirement Village in Bloemfontein, South Africa, where she obtained special permission for him to stay with her in the Retirement Village.
He is attending a After Care Center for Mental Disabled Adults during the day where he work in the kitchen as a dishwasher in order to keep him occupied. There is no remuneration and his mother has to pay his disability grant of R1 200 towards the center.
He is currently attending a government (state) hospital for his monthly medication, but unfortunately they cannot always provide all the medications, which leaves his mother to purchases these from private Dr's.
The chronic medications he currently utilized are Potassium Citrate for cramps as the drain water from his brain, Epilim for the prevention of Epilepsy, Serdep to calm him and depression, Diamox for drainage of water from his brain and Furosemide a water tablet.
My goal is to raise funds for his medical and lifestyle needs, which requires life long chronic medications and visits to specialist Dr's to monitor his medical conditions and further ongoing medical procedures required for his condition.
