Fundrasing to Climate Change Workshop

Hello there! My name is Molly (or Moldir) and I am 23 years old. I am very open and passionate individual (well, my friends tell me that all the time). Indeed, it is very unusual to write here or even ask someone to fund you, but I will try to introduce myself very quickly and then you decide if my situation is not so miserable as it seems to be.

I got two degrees (bachelor's with Distinction and master's with Merits). One of them is from my local university and another one is from a foreign country in Aerospace Engineering (for more details please go to www.linkedin.com/in/moldir-zholdasbayeva-144951162). I specialise in aerodynamics, CFD and project management, however I am also interested in renewable energy and climate change. For my diploma, I worked on evaluating the air pollution in my city and how was connected to what we are facing right now: the increasing number of powerplants and the decreasing volume of pastures. Unfortunately, I
have not concentrated on finding any reasonable solution, but I identified the causes of it. Ideally, I hope to get more insight about what could be done efficiently to avoid the environmental cataclysm. Well, this is what I am mostly concentrated on. For every event or workshop I choose for my personal or career development, I try to priotise the above-mentioned option for the sake of getting and sharing knowledge, which could helpful in the near future.

Now I work as a Teaching Assistant at my local university, mainly working with teaching materials. In my free time, I work on a project related to the renewable energy sector (well, basically I am having fun with a bunch of data). Why I am not working as an engineer? I confess that I do love this academic environment and everything, so right now I cannot imagine myself anywhere else.

Now what am I raising money for?

I am raising money to fund myself to attend the workshop related to Climate Change (for more information please go to https://www.climaterealityproject.org/apply/lasvegas#applyanch) on March 8-10, 2020. This workshop is an open platform for discussions and actions which gathers a thousands of people around the world (of course, with several selection criterias).

What am I going to do here?

Personally, I am intending to enhance my level of leadership ability there through sharing my ideas and communicating with people. Recently I have organized the event to enhance the awareness of people about what it is climate change and how it can be tackled in collaboration with Global Shapers. At the beginning of the event, several speakers shared their knowledge about the global problem related to severe environmental cataclysms. At the end, visitors had a chance to speak and ask questions to our experts. I do believe that this will cause another ultimate reaction to the perception of people about the temperature rise, the increase of sea level, the gradual destruction of flora, etc. I am convinced that it will take some time to get people partly consider that climate change is not an illusion, but the permanent state that we are in. However, I do hope to meet experts and students to talk about it and see how differently they see the problem.

How much it will cost?

Have no idea, but with my calculations it should be:

- flight tickets (from Nur-Sultan to Las-Vegas and from Las Vegas to Nur-Sultan): 900 dollars;
- accommodation: around 500 dollars;
- visa: 600 dollars;

However, I may be mistaken and it will be only 1500 dollars in total (If I will try to economise at some point).

What is the deadline for fundraising?

Preferably, by the end of January and the beginning of February, because I need to apply to the USA visa (it may take some time).

CO2 produced by plane, what do you say about it?

Honestly, I love airplanes (see...my background does exclude any possibility of hating them) and I cannot avoid them, even if they are producing a huge amount of emissions (just for now).
