Fundraising to build a medical center at Kalo

SUMMARY

Bandundu province covers an area of 295658 Km2 and has a population estimated at over 9892,22 people. It is mainly characterized by low health coverage and lack of health facilities in relation to the size of the population. The province has 148 doctors or a doctor for 100825 people and three pharmacists. There is a too low level of electrification rate (1,26%) and too low level of access to safe drinking water level (1,89%).

Kalo is located in the local community of Sedzo, Idiofa territory, province of Bandundu. It is a big village of about 33000 people without health facilities (health centers, public or private place to provide care and services related to health, diagnostic and general medical care). The population of Kalo and surrounding villages traveled over 250 km to find a hospital. This causes more deaths among children, mothers and men. Malnutrition and drinking of unclean water are the cause of many illnesses and deaths. 8 out of 10 children in the region are malnourished and one child dies every hour. Mothers do not know diets of babies. Most people believe in witchcraft. Women give birth at home and sometimes in the fields without the assistance of midwives. No teachings on birth and medical instructions on the birth of children. Prenatal care is unknown, The maternal and infant mortality rate is high and there is no political will to allow this people to fully enjoy this constitutional right. No internation NGO working in the corner. This project will facilitate access to primary health care.

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM OR THE CHALLENGE?

Labor force is one who is healthy and working to develop the community. Being healthy is a universally recognized right. When people are sick,they must be treated. The big question for people living at Kalo and surroundings is where they must go for medical care? It's  an unanswered question because there are no health facilities (health centers, maternity, nutrition centre..) This is why we set up the project to build a health center and wells for clean water to help them.

HOW WILL THIS PROJECT SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

This project will give to the population access to health care and to the women the opportunity to give birth in human conditions. Children will grow in good conditions. Youth is the future of the region. The project will reduce the rate of infant and maternal mortality and the number of deaths caused by the waterborne diseases. It will also minimize the problem of accesibility in terms of distance to find a medical center.

Your donation will save amount of lives and will help to build 3 wells of clean water and a medical center with maternity included. Funds raised will help to buy medical equipment and drugs and will be entrusted to a firm of construction and a drilling of water wells company in accordance with invoices.

POTENTIAL LONG TERM IMPACT

Existence of adequate health infrastructure and improvement of the management of patients; ensure that patients are satisfied with the care provided in the medical center; involving the community in the management of the health sector and minimize problem of accessibility in terms of distance to find a medical center; make accessible health services to the population by the reducing the cost of health care.
