2017 war für Daniele Porcu eine gute Saison. Seinen letzten Sieger ritt er am 5. November, sein letzter Ritt war im Japan Cup. Danach bekam er die Diagnose Krebs und am 4. Januar ist er, gerade 34 Jahre alt, verstorben. Als Reaktion auf seinen Tod gab es in den sozialen Medien eine Welle von Beileidsbezeugungen und großer Anteilnahme. Daniele war eben nicht nur ein großer Jockey, sondern auch ein sehr sympathischer Mensch, der nicht nur im Galoppsport viele Freunde hatte. Er hatte immer ein freundliches Wort, ein nettes Lächeln für die Menschen in seiner Umgebung. Gewiß passieren ähnliche Dinge fast täglich irgendwo in Deutschland. Aber der Rennsport ist anders, es ist ein Sport mit großen Emotionen und für die Aktiven leider auch oft ein Beruf mit kleinem Geldbeutel. Daniele hinterläßt seine Frau, die, um ihm den Rücken frei zu halten, keinen Beruf ausgeübt hat und nun ihr Leben neu organisieren muß, dazu noch in einem fremden Land, dessen Sprache sie nur sehr eingeschränkt spricht. Dabei möchten wir sie, so gut es geht unterstützen und hoffen auf die Unterstützung der Rennsportgemeinde - als einen letzten Gruß an Daniele und für seine Sellina.

Il 2017 è stata una buona stagione per Daniele Porcu. La sua ultima vittoria è stata il 5 novembre, la sua ultima corsa nel Japan Cup. Subito dopo gli è stato diagnosticato un cancro, e il 4 gennaio Daniele è deceduto a soli 34 anni. In risposta alla sua morte c'è stata un'ondata di condoglianze e partecipazione nei social media. Daniele non era solo un grande fantino, ma anche una persona simpatica e socievole, che aveva molti amici non solo nelle corse al galoppo. Aveva sempre una parola gentile e un sorriso pronto per le persone che lo circondavano. Certamente cose simili accadono quasi ogni giorno in Germania. Ma l'ippica è diversa. E' uno sport di grandi emozioni e per gli attivi purtroppo spesso un lavoro con un guadagno molto limitato. Daniele lascia la moglie che, per sostenerlo, non esercitava alcuna professione e ora deve riorganizzare la sua vita in un paese straniero, la cui lingua parla in modo molto limitato. In questo vogliamo supportarla il ??più possibile e speriamo nel supporto della comunità ippica - come ultimo saluto a Daniele e per sua Sellina.

2017 had been a good season for Daniele Porcu: He rode 50 winners in total, his last winner on November 5th; his last ride came in the Japan Cup. But after returning home he announced his terminal illness and died on January 4th, just 34 years old. People were stunned by this tragic news and shared condolences and sympathies across social media. Daniele was not only a great jockey, but also a very kind person, with many friends among the horseracing community and beyond. He always had a friendly word or a kind smile for everyone. Of course such a tragic fate is sadly all too-common. But Daniele worked in horseracing: it is a sport of great excitement and thrill, but for the riders in main also a profession of little return. Daniele leaves his wife, who organized his life behind the scenes. Apart from her huge loss she now has to rebuild her life with no major income – racing surely needs to help. We hope the horseracing community is generous in their support – as a last farewell and mark of respect for Daniele and his wife Sellina.
